Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital Enhances Men’s Health Services with Innovative Prostate Treatment

Jun 3, 2024

TUCSON – Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital is proud to offer a new procedure for the treatment of enlarged prostate, a condition that affects a significant number of men over the age of 50. This minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgical treatments promises quicker recovery times and fewer side effects, emphasizing our commitment to advancing men's health care.

Aquablation therapy uses optics and ultrasound imaging, allowing the surgeon to map which parts of the prostate to remove and which parts to avoid that may cause complications like erectile dysfunction, ejaculatory dysfunction, and incontinence. The imaging system allows surgeons to develop individualized procedural planning, which can adjust for angle, length, contour and depth of penetration of the high-pressure water beam.

As we observe Men’s Health Month this June, our focus on prostate wellness is more pertinent than ever. This procedure, utilizing advanced technology to effectively reduce prostate enlargement and alleviate symptoms, supports our mission to improve health outcomes and patient experiences.

“Offering this innovative treatment during Men’s Health Month reinforces our dedication to pioneering men’s health care,” said Monica Vargas-Mahar, the chief executive officer for Carondelet Health Network. “With an increased interest in less invasive options, this procedure represents a significant step forward in prostate health management.”

We encourage those experiencing symptoms of an enlarged prostate to consult with our Urology Department to learn more about this and other men’s health services available at Carondelet St. Joseph’s.
