St. Joseph's Hospital

Spiritual Care

Chaplain Services

Quality patient care includes being attentive to your physical, spiritual and emotional needs. A member of our Spiritual Care staff may contact you during your hospitalization. Carondelet Health Network Chaplains may include Catholic priests and sisters, as well as ordained ministers and board-certified chaplains from many faiths. Volunteer Eucharistic Ministers bring Holy Communion to Catholic patients who wish to receive the sacrament during their stay. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick and the Sacrament of Reconciliation are available to our Catholic patients during the day when a chaplain priest is present in the hospital. All patients may ask for a blessing from any of our spiritual caregivers.

Patients are encouraged to contact their personal leader or clergy. Your nurse or our chaplain can assist you in making these contacts if requested. Chaplains are available during the day to help meet your spiritual needs.  Religious and other spiritual services are available upon request.

It is our sincere desire that your soul will be comforted and nourished through the services offered by our Spiritual Care Services.

Chaplains and Case Management staff can all provide emotional/spiritual support and guidance in medical decision-making, as well as an explanation about code status, Living Wills and Health Care Power of Attorney. To request support, please inform your nurse so that he/she can make the appropriate referral.

St. Joseph’s All-Faith Chapel

The Fred and Olga Pace Spiritual Center, St. Joseph’s all-faith chapel, is located on the first floor of the hospital. This spiritual center features a welcoming healing garden, multiple spaces for quiet reflection, and the hospital chapel which is always open to visitors of all denominations. Visitors are welcome to experience the quiet of our chapel and to spend time in silent meditation. Visitors are also welcome to attend Mass offered at noon each day that a chaplain priest is present in the hospital.
