The mission of Carondelet Foundation is to build supportive
relationships through philanthropy, stewardship and education,
which sustain and enhance the community's trust in Carondelet
Health Network.
VISION STATEMENT
Carondelet Foundation is the recognized leader in health care
philanthropy. We are the bridge that connects Carondelet Health
Network to community resources. We provide dynamic education and
foster partnerships that further the mission and goals of the
Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
PURPOSE STATEMENT
The purpose of Carondelet Foundation is to solicit, receive,
maintain and manage gifts, money and property, and to distribute
them to Carondelet Health Network and its communities to support
the charitable activities related to Carondelet Health Network
and the health care mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph of
Carondelet.
HISTORY
Carondelet Health Network is comprised of four hospitals: Tucson
Heart Hospital, A for-profit hospital; and three non-profit
hospitals which include St. Joseph’s Hospital; St. Mary’s
Hospital; and Holy Cross Hospital. We serve the health care
needs of residents from Tucson and greater Pima County, a
population of 946,362, and Nogales, AZ, located in Santa Cruz
County on the U.S./Mexico border with a population of 43,080
(2006 U.S. Census). Carondelet Foundation advances the mission
of Carondelet Health Network through fund-raising programs
including an annual community campaign, direct mail appeals,
special events, grants development, and planned giving. The
Foundation serves its three non-profit hospitals.
These four hospitals locally comprise Carondelet Health Network
which joined forces with Ascension Health System in 2002.
Ascension Health is the largest private non-profit Catholic
hospital system in the United States and has over 60 hospitals
in more than 20 states and is sponsored by four provinces of the
Daughters of Charity, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Nazareth and
the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
Carondelet Foundation was established in May 1993 by combining
three separate foundations for St. Mary’s, St. Joseph’s and Holy
Cross Hospitals to solicit, accept, manage and invest donations
for the exclusive benefit of Carondelet Health Network and it’s
programs and services. Carondelet Foundation is incorporated
under Carondelet Health Network with a listing in the Catholic
Directory and is thereby recognized as a tax-exempt organization
as described in Subsections 501(c)(3) and 509(a) of the Internal
Revenue Code. Therefore, all donations made to Carondelet
Foundation are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
A Board of Trustees comprised of 25 community representatives
governs Carondelet Foundation. The Foundation's efforts are
augmented by more than 600 auxiliary members and hospital
volunteers as well as a community fund-raising group, The
Centurions.
The Foundation adheres to the highest ethical standards with
regard to fundraising and fund management. The Foundation’s
financial records are audited annually by an accounting firm
selected by Carondelet Health Network.
