Gerlinde S. Tynan, M.D., FACS, is the Medical Director of The Breast Center at Carondelet St. Mary’s and the Breast Health Program for Carondelet Health Network. She is a board-certified general surgeon specializing in breast cancer, an active member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, a fellow in the American College of Surgeons, and one of only two surgeons in Southern Arizona certified in breast ultrasound. Additionally, her office has been deemed a Center of Excellence in the placement of SAVI brachytherapy catheters.
Dr. Tynan offers in-office ultrasound guided biopsies, cyst aspirations and cryoablation of fibroadenomas. Operative techniques include oncoplastic lumpectomies, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and traditional as well as skin and nipple-sparing mastectomies with or without immediate reconstruction in conjunction with plastic surgery. She offers the full spectrum of breast cancer care; appropriately selected patients may be offered radiation therapy catheters and those undergoing chemotherapy may have infusion ports placed.
Dr. Tynan heads the Breast Centers’ multidisciplinary cancer conference where an individualized treatment plan is created for each patient pre-operatively based on national guidelines and taking into account their particular pathology, breast anatomy, risk factors and personal wishes. While her practice is mostly comprised of patients with breast cancer, she also treats benign breast disease and provides assessment and counseling for those at high risk of developing breast cancer.
Dr. Tynan obtained her medical degree at the University of Washington, and completed her surgical residency at the University of Arizona. She participates in clinical research in association with Arizona Oncology.
