VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Since the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet founded St. Mary's Hospital more than a century ago, Carondelet has been committed to serving all patients with compassionate, loving care. A corps of volunteers is an essential part of that effort.

At our various Carondelet sites, we have an Adult Volunteer program, a Junior Volunteer program for youths aged 14-17, and Career Track programs for post-high school students and adults returning to work. For people who want to help families of dying patients, our Hospice program also welcomes volunteers.

Volunteers provide a wide range of services, including:
  • One-on-one patient assistance
  • Clerical help
  • Family and visitor assistance
  • Sales and craft making
  • Shuttle driving
  • Services in special interest areas

Volunteers come to Carondelet from all backgrounds and for a variety of reasons. Some of the people who volunteer are:

  • Retired people who want to keep active and share their knowledge.
  • Couples seeking a renewed sense of purpose.
  • People who want to sharpen their skills before re-entering the job market.
  • Business people who want to learn more about their community.
  • High school or college students interested in career exploration.

Before joining a Carondelet program, volunteers have an interview with the site's volunteer director or coordinator to talk about their interests, availability, and volunteering goals. The goal is to place volunteers where they can find the most satisfaction while serving the Carondelet family.
