Carondelet Health Network announced today its Heart & Vascular Institute will relocate to the campus of Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital. This relocation of services and personnel, along with a significant capital investment in the newest technologies, will allow for planned growth in the Ministry’s heart and vascular program well into the future. Additional significant investments will be made to St. Mary’s campus.
“Carondelet has been invested in Tucson and Southern Arizona for more than 132 years,” said Jim Beckmann, President and CEO of Carondelet Health Network. “As our Ministry looks forward, we are concentrating on providing increased access to excellent care and meeting the needs of the growing community we serve. This expansion, relocation and investment in our cardiovascular service line are perfect examples of that.”
“Relocating the Institute to the campus of an acute care medical center with a full complement of medical specialties ensures the highest quality of care for our patients in treating all of their health needs. Immediate access from I-10 to Carondelet’s premiere cardiac care, cardiothoracic surgery and vascular surgery programs will allow us to provide the most modern procedures and advanced technology to all of Southern Arizona and the entire southwest region,” said Dr. Derek von Haag, a cardiothoracic surgeon and Medical Director of Carondelet’s cardiothoracic surgery program.
Just as St. Joseph’s campus is home to Carondelet Neurological Institute, St. Mary’s campus will welcome Carondelet Heart & Vascular Institute. The relocation is expected to take six to nine months. During the transition, the Institute’s River & Stone facility will continue operating at full strength.
“Our physician partners and associates are the heart and soul of this service line,” added Beckmann. “They are the Institute.” Carondelet has a comprehensive transition plan involving all of our CHVI associates.
“This is the integration of two strong teams…an Institute that provides the community with modern, minimally-invasive solutions to cardiac surgery and an multi-specialty medical center recently designated as a Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence,” added Dr. von Haag. According to HealthGrades™, Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospital ranks among the top five percent of hospitals nationwide for clinical excellence in both 2011 and 2012.
